Writing Research Paper: General Form Of A Typical Project

Research papers are assigned every day at schools all over the world. Each teacher provides a unique and specific set of rules and instructions for students to follow. While there are different specific variations to the writing process for each unique class, there are some general guidelines that you can follow in order to make sure that you are going about starting the writing process effectively.

  • First of all, there is going to be a specific format that you are going to have to follow- the format for research papers varies from the type of class that you are writing for. The format for an English class paper will be much different than the format for a science class paper. Identify the format that you have to use for the paper up front.
  • Create an outline in that unique format for your specific class- By creating the outline of your paper in the appropriate format that you will have to turn it in with, you are setting yourself up for success.
  • Select a focus of your research paper and design your main idea sentence from that focus- The main idea sentence is going to be a road map for the rest of your paper. You will be able to add in relevant information to each body paragraph once you have the main idea sentence that dictates the focus of each body paragraph.
  • Identify the focus of each body paragraph from the main idea sentence and fill in supporting details- you will add in your supporting details and research to the respective body paragraph that you are working on.
  • Once you have the information filled in to the introduction and body paragraphs, you will be able to craft your conclusion paragraph or statement- the conclusion of a research paper can be a paragraph or a statement. It is up to the teacher or professor to dictate which it has to be. If the teacher or professor has no preference, then you can choose which fits your paper better.
  • Now that you have your outline completed, you are ready to move on to your first draft of the research paper.

If you follow all of the guidelines of composition above, then you are going to be in good shape to write your research paper. Once you have your first draft written, you will be ready to edit, revise, rewrite, and proofread your paper.
