Biology GCSE Coursework Writing Guide

General Certificate of Secondary Education- or GCSE- courses require lots of research and writing, especially in the field of biology. If you find yourself facing writing lots of essays for your GCSE biology classes, check out these writing tips and use them as a guide to help you complete well-written work on time.

Always follow the teacher's instructions.

No matter what writing guides tell you to do, always follow what your teacher says. Each professor is different and each one will want you to do something different for their class. You should always follow your teacher's instructions to ensure the highest grade possible. Keep the instructions near you to refer to often as you write my coursework or any other work for class.

Research your topic thoroughly.

No matter the topic you are given, always research it. Whether this is a topic you know by heart or something you have no idea about, research the basics of the topic first. After you have a firm understanding of what the topic is about, type it in your own words as if you are trying to explain it to a friend. Afterward, make a list of questions you have about the topic and research those points. From here you will develop the direction of your paper.

Write your thesis and test it.

After you know about the topic, write a thesis that states what your paper is about or what you want to explain, prove, or disprove. This can be as simple as trying to figure out why cells divide the way they do, or as complicated as breaking down the whole theory of evolution. Whatever you decide, make sure your thesis can be discussed easily in your paper by writing out at least three points you want to discuss related to the topic and thesis. If you can't come up with three points and a source of fact for each, your thesis needs work.

Write a conclusion that makes sense.

Many times people will write a great thesis, a solid paper full of research, and then leave the conclusion bland. Your conclusion should not bring up new information, but it should be interesting and wrap up your points nicely. Make sure your conclusion doesn't fall flat or gets confusing.

When you are writing your GCSE work, always follow instructions, and research everything before you start writing. With your research, you can form a good thesis and develop at least three points to support your thesis. Close with a well-written conclusion that makes sense and wraps everything up.
